Log against the day

The punch says how long the day was. The timesheet says what it was for.

Entered 29 Sep 2026 · 18:20 IST

How does timesheet software work with attendance?

Each day opens with its attendance already on it, so people log time against the hours they punched instead of from memory. Asha's Tuesday shows in at 09:02, out at 18:14, 8 h 12 m worked. She adds five entries, and the sheet shows what is left to log.

Starts from the attendance day

Worked hours, breaks and leave arrive from attendance. A day on approved leave expects no time.

Hours, or a start and end

Type 2 h 30 m, or a from and to. Both are stored as the same entry, with a task line.

From the phone or the desk

Log between meetings on the phone, or fill the week on Friday from a browser.

Attendance is optional

Teams that don't punch can still log time. The sheet simply has no worked hours beside it.

Projects and clients

Set up once. People pick from a short list, so the report can add up.

A short list of projects, each with its client.

A project belongs to a client or to Internal. It carries a billable default, a lead and the people who can log to it. People only see the projects they are on.

Submit and approve

A week is submitted once, approved once. Changes after that are written as new entries.

The week goes in on Friday. It comes back approved, or with a note.

Meenal sees Vikram's week with the attendance beside it. One day is logged above its worked hours, so the sheet flags it and says by how much.

  • A reminder on Friday afternoon, not every hour
  • Approve, or send back with a note on the day in question
  • A mismatch with attendance is flagged, never blocked
  • Approved weeks stop moving; a later change reopens the week

Billable and reports

because a report that counts unapproved time has to be re-run after every approval.

Billable hours by client, from approved weeks only.

Every entry is billable or not, set by the project and changeable on the entry. Reports add up approved time by client, project and person, so a figure never includes a week still waiting.

By client and project

Hours per client for any date range, split by project and by person.

Billable share

How much of each person's logged time was billable, week by week.

Non-billable, with a reason

Internal work is counted too, so planning time on a client project stays visible.

Export, and how it connects

Attendance says how long. Timesheets say what for. Leave says who is away.

A file for your invoicing tool, and a day shared with attendance.

Approved hours leave as a CSV file, one row per entry, in hours and decimals. LekhaHR does not raise invoices or hold billing rates; your accounting tool does that part.

An honest note

because the right tool for your team matters more than one more sign-up.

Who LekhaHR timesheets are written for.

Written for you if

Small service teams that bill clients by the hour.

  • You run client projects and need approved hours per client at month end.
  • Your team already punches attendance and you want both in one place.
  • Timesheets live in a spreadsheet that someone chases every Friday.

Talk to us first if

Some set-ups need a full project suite.

  • You need invoicing, billing rates or retainers inside the same tool.
  • You plan resources, budgets and Gantt charts across many projects.
  • You want a desktop timer that tracks apps or takes screenshots. We don't do that.

Questions

Short answers. Each one matches what the module is written to do.

What small teams ask about timesheets.

What is employee timesheet software?

Employee timesheet software is where people record the hours they spent on each project or client, submit them for a period, and get them approved. Approved hours then feed reports and an export for billing. In LekhaHR the week is submitted on Friday, approved by a manager, and every entry keeps its project, task and billable flag.

Do people have to punch attendance to log time?

No. If your team uses LekhaHR attendance, each day's worked hours sit beside the timesheet, so logging starts from the day as punched. If it doesn't, people log hours on their own and the sheet works the same way. Either way, the week goes to the same approver on Friday.

What if logged hours and attendance don't match?

The sheet shows both. A day logged above its worked hours is flagged with the gap, and the approver decides. Hours left unlogged are shown as a gap, never filled in for the person. The approver can send the week back with a note to fix it.

Can I invoice clients from LekhaHR?

No. LekhaHR does not raise invoices or hold billing rates. It exports approved hours by client, project, person and task as a CSV file, and your accounting or invoicing tool does the rest. Rates and invoice numbering stay in the tool you already use.

Who approves timesheets?

The person's manager, by default, or another approver you set. A week can be approved or sent back with a note. Once approved, a change reopens the week and is written as a new entry, with the approved version kept.

Is timesheet software worth it for a small team?

It is once billable hours or project time matter to you. LekhaHR works from two people up, priced per employee with no fixed monthly minimum. Timesheets are in the Business plan, ₹119 per employee a month for the first 25, on annual billing, before GST.
